These birds nest here in spring and summer before returning to Brazil. Local University of Alberta Professor, Glen Hvenegaard, has studied Purple Martins extensively along with many other species that call Camrose home. The Stoney Creek area is particularly popular for birding due to the abundance and diverstiy of bird species that inhabit the wetlands, riparian areas, aspen forests, shrub areas, prairie, badlands, cropland, and urban areas.
